The Business Coach Institute is a partnership of Brian Nichol and Lou Raye Nichol and an extensive network of business coaches. We provide training for coaches, coaching services to organizations and individuals, and encourage the development of research into coaching.
 
Brian Nichol, Ph.D.

Brian’s work spans private industry, university teaching, and independent consulting. He holds a Ph.D. in organizational psychology. He is co-director of the NC State University Business Coaching Certificate program and formed the Business Coach Institute in 2002. He is a business coach, a trainer of coaches, and provides coach training to organizations.

Brian has taught graduate courses in Organization Development (OD) and Human Resource Development (HRD) for 25 years. He was a visiting professor at NC State University where he

taught courses in HRD, Performance Management and Organization Development in the Training and Development program. He worked on the ACCLAIM project where he helped community colleges in America and England become more responsive to the needs of the community. He is a member of the faculty of the UNC Charlotte OD Certificate program. Before he came to North Carolina he coordinated the Masters Degree program in Training and Development at Manchester University in England. He has supervised 100's of dissertations and field projects by HRD professionals.

In industry he was a training specialist with Kodak (UK) Ltd. and the Beecham Group (now GlaxoSmithKline). He worked on a major project for the National Health Service in which he helped develop the interdisciplinary teams that formed its senior management structure. He designed programs used by the British Army to train its training advisors. He has worked as an executive coach in private practice and as a career development coach to out-placed executives on a project supported by the Manpower Services Commission.

In 2000 he was President of the Triangle Organization Development Network. He was a board member of the Carolina’s Group Psychotherapy Society from 1995 to 2000. He is a member of the International Federation of Coaches and the NC Coaches Association.

Lou Raye Nichol, M.Ed.
Lou Raye is a business coach, trainer of coaches, and career transition coach. Her background is in Organization Development and Training. Previously she was Executive Director of Leadership Triangle. She has worked as a project manager and an internal training and organization development manager. She has owned and operated a small craft pottery business and taught in adult education. She has a Masters Degree in Training and Development and a Post-graduate Certificate in Counseling. She is qualified to administer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator.

In Leadership Triangle she developed, organized and facilitated programs to help emerging and established local leaders become effective at a regional level. This involved developing their capacity for values-based leadership, systems thinking, and working across boundaries. She led the board to grow the organization from a half-time Executive Director position to full time by securing the patronage of a prominent community leader. Previously she managed the OD and Training Organization for the North of England Region of the Richmond Fellowship, an international non-profit. From a green field site, she built a training program that served as a cost center to meet the training needs of the parent organization and provided external training and consultancy to various government agencies, the health service, and other non-profit and for-profit companies. She worked as an internal consultant to help the Richmond Fellowship manage the significant changes that were occurring in its external environment and within its own management structure.

Lou Raye was President of the Triangle Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development in 2001and is currently a board member of the North Carolina Association of Professional and Business Coaches. She is a member of the International Coach Federation and the Triangle Organization Development Network. She has been a volunteer facilitator for Study Circles in Race and Ethnic Relations for the YWCA of Wake County and Wake Education Partnership.
